"Each picture told a story; mysterious often to my undeveloped understanding and imperfect feelings, yet ever profoundly interesting".
Or you may recognize it as the title of one of Rod Stewart's most famous songs.
In any case, what we see is only surface level. Behind the scenes there are many details and subplots to bringing a story to paper - in whatever form that paper may be.
